Mya’s Story: The Power of Being Heard Through Music and Community

Mya loves music — listening to it, performing it, and sharing it with others.

She’s been part of ARC’s music program for a while now, bringing energy, ideas, and a collaborative spirit that continues to grow and shine. When asked what she enjoys most about music, she put it simply:

“Working as a team. Coming together. Giving ideas as a group and making music more better.”

That’s the heart of what happens here: building community, sharing the joy of creative expression, and encouraging one another to find and share their voice. It’s about showing up as yourself and growing from there.

Music is a universal language — a way to connect, explore, communicate, and uplift. Everyone in the room has gifts to offer, and music gives them shape.

Over time, Mya’s voice has grown even stronger. In her words:

“I was a shy person, but now that I’ve opened up, I have so much confidence. I can perform in front of everybody.”

For many participants, ARC’s music program is more than a place to sing or play. It’s a space to collaborate, belong, have fun, gain confidence, and be seen through authentic expression. It’s a program that celebrates neurodiversity and the many ways people share talent, joy, and leadership.

Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, donor, artist, or community member: thank you for being part of our mission.

ARCArts is built on a belief in the power of music and a shared excitement for what’s possible when people are empowered to show up as themselves.

Mya’s story is about recognition, celebration, and belonging. Her voice was always there, ARC just gave her the space to be heard.
